The saying goes “the grass is not greener on the other side” and they couldn’t be more right. From Ohio to Indiana to Illinois with a pit stop in Missouri. I thought Missouri was it, things were going so well, making friends, meeting people and than I met Zeus. Not the mythical character but a cute little dog. We became best friends almost instantaneously. Everywhere I went he went. Where I slept he slept. He’s was my little buddy and I needed a friend. I needed a friend badly. And then, poof, just like that he was gone. But before he left he wanted to introduce me to one of his friends. He told me that it was a very special friend. That somewhere in the crowd was his special friend. I had no idea what he was talking about, but soon I would learn……
The friend was nowhere to be found. I looked and looked and looked until I gave up. This story is not about a dog, it’s about life. Sometimes to borrow another cliche “if it seems to good to be true, it’s not true”. I want to know who coined these phrases, because more often than not there spot on.
So, it was time to leave Missouri, I didn’t want to, I really didn’t, I kept hoping Zues would come back and fix everything. This however is life real life not a fairy tale and so onward we go.
Well besides traversing what seemed like most of the country, I learned a lot. Mostly I learned what not to do.
I could go on and on because like in life it’s not the end result that matters but the journey. The journey is where all the fun is, it’s where all the heartache is, it’s where life lessons are learned and more importantly everlasting memories are formed. Memories, my friends, in the end is all we have.
One last thing told me, sensing I might be depressed. Don’t give up, Don’t ever give up. Zues told me.. Must have been a friend of Jim Valvano…….
Bye the way I did meet that friend and Zues was right, it was one very special breed. Friendly, playful and followed me just like Zues, wherever I went and than poof……He was gone or maybe it was me.https://wp.me/p94xLK-Az
