My visit to the Doctor

Nobody really likes going to the doctors, do they? I mean, that antiseptic smell, the silence (of the lambs) of the waiting room but for the odd groan and sniffle, the weird sounds your doctor makes while analyzing the problem and most of all of the unpleasant procedures.

However, so far as the potential for awkward scenarios goes, going to the doc’s could be comedy gold. From misinformed patients to physicians with a wickedly dry sense of humor.

Well, today I went to the doctor and while I was waiting to be seen, after the nurse came in, ask me your basic questions and proceeded out of the room. As I normally do while waiting for the Doctor I opened my door. Don’t like to be closed in. Nevertheless, my nurse and another who was an ER nurse apparently were talking and I overheard this story. I re-arranged some of the words to make it sound more like a conventional story. It kept me entertained while I waited for the Doctor. It goes something like this:

A guy comes into the emergency department via ambulance with burns on his lower extremities. His shoes are charred and the bottoms of his pants are definitely burned off but his skin is not really bad. He had been trying to use a propane-powered weed burner in his lawn (think fire thrower) and things got a bit out of control. I smelled alcohol on his breath, and so I asked the man if he had been drinking and he looked me directly in the eye and said,”Nooooo”. I got drunk only standing next to him. This was a once in a lifetime set up and that I could not help myself… The paramedics all turned and ran from the space they had been laughing so hard! The individual only stared at me. He was so drunk it went completely over his head.

So when I got home, I decided to peruse the net to see if there is a site that tells stories like the one I heard. To my surprise there is.
