ADHD Not Just A Childs Disorder

Adult ADHD Overview

Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a relatively common, frequently unrecognized condition. It impacts 4.4 percentile of U.S. adults, but most adults who have ADHD reside with the symptoms and endure the often-devastating ramifications of ADHD in their own lives without identifying the source of their struggles. Rather, their issues are attributed to their shortcomings.

Once diagnosed, many adults are delighted to learn that they do not have a personality defect as described in the title of one popular book on ADHD,”You Mean I’m Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy?!” (a traditional book for adults with ADHD).

Adult ADHD Exists
Many individuals who suffer from untreated ADHD avoid treatment or diagnosis due to the negative stigma associated with ADHD. Many people dismiss ADHD as nothing more than laziness targeted as an advertising opportunity by pharmaceutical companies. But many years of the scientific study confirms adult ADHD does indeed exist and concludes ADHD diminishes adults’ quality of life.

Stigma or Awareness

Regardless of the stigma surrounding ADHD, knowing about your Adult ADHD is preferable to fighting unawares. ADHD isn’t a”one size fits all” disorder and several things have to be considered before a definitive diagnosis is made and appropriate therapy is found.

It’s Far Better to Know
An ADHD diagnosis is not a death sentence, nor does it guarantee a lifetime of taking pills. Medication is not always effective, and there are lots of adults with ADHD who don’t want medication as part of the treatment plan. But without knowing if you are afflicted with adult ADHD, there’s certainly nothing anybody can do to help.
