My horrible Experience with a Business relationship and Airbnb

I have been traveling throughout the United States over the last few months. I am semi-retired and looking to settle down somewhere, and enjoy the rest of the years I have left.

For the most part if I didn’t stay with friends I would stay in a hotel. After a while of staying in a hotel it began to get expensive. Someone told me of Airbnb as cheaper way to have a nice play to stay and reasonable rates.

I enrolled with Airbnb and went through the vetting process. I was approved to book with their properties. During the Month April I stayed at numerous properties and generally, had a pleasant experience. I found Airbnb to be an excellent alternative to hotels and at a more affordable rates.

Then I booked a property and paid for two weeks. All went well during week one. The host was nice, as well as the property. During my stay I visited a lady friend of mine to discuss business. She has a custom dessert and cake company and needed help with a business plan and traveled an hour and a half to visit her. She showed me the business and I was impressed with the product.

That became difficult so I invited her to come and stay with me at the airbnb property to discuss my recommendations, I cleared things with the property host and was good to go.

So we start discussing ideas and the first day went fine. The second day we had a disagreement, which to me was water off a ducks back, but to my friend it was an issue. I don’t know why.

My friend escalated the issue. and I tried to resolve the issue, I certainly didn’t want the host to get involved. My friend kept escalating and I knew there was nothing I could say or do, to make her calm down, and resolve the issue. I actually didn’t fully understand my friends concern.

To resovle the issue I told my friend, I’m sorry but you have to leave this is not my house, and your embarrassing me, and also possibly ruining my stay at this property. They got even more irate and refused to leave.

In the end, I left the property and told my friend I’m going out for something to eat and when I return, you must be gone.

They left, but while they there something transpired between the host and my friend, that when I returned, I was asked to leave.

I left without incident and went to another airbnb property. I spent about a week there and all was well. I checked out, and it was time to go home.

About a month later, back on the road I went. I had found a place where I wanted to retire to and a house to purchase. In the interim, I needed somewhere to stay. I tried to book a reservation through airbnb, and learned after several phone calls, that I had been blocked.

They stated their was a case manager working on my case and they would contact me. They have not, despite all my efforts to resolve this issue they have gone for naught. This is wrong!

I have contacted the CEO Brian Bresky via email. Airbnb makes it impossible to speak to any decision makers and there are no phone numbers that will lead you to someone in the corporate office.

It becomes extremely frustrating. I wrote this because this is a company making money had over fist, without a legitimate avenue to speak to the company that your have spent thousands of dollars with. That is wrong and people must know. I never like doing business with internet firms without the ability to contact them by phone.

In the end it was my fault, I never should have invited to stay at a house that wasn’t mine. Regardless of how old you are, your never too old to learn.
