This is a sports story, maybe not. In a previous post, I told the story of how a bar in Philadelphia are responsible for the St. Louis Blues adapting Gloria the Laura Braningan hit song in the 1980’s as the victory song. At the time, in January of 2019, the Blues had the worst record in the NHL
It was midway through the season. The Blues won three games in a row, thru the inspiration of a group of stranger’s influence and attachment to the 1980 hit song by Laura Brannigan, Gloria, the hockey team adapted it as the victory song. Having played organized sports athletes are highly superstitious, accordingly why change something if it’s working. Although, logically the song nor Laura Brannigan had a thing to due with there recent wins. Neverthes
winning streak continued as did the routine after a win.
The Patrons of the Philadelphia bar invited a half dozen members of the Blues hockey team to Philadelphia. After the visit the Blues players returned to St. Louis, went on to win that night and adapted Gloria as there victory song.
To really understand this story you must know the back story. I have included in this post a you tube video which explains everything.
The Blues came into existance in 1967, had never won the Stanley cup Finals, hockey’s version of the World Series. The last time the Blues were even in the finals was in 1970, 49 years ago. A long time ago. The Blues continued there winning streak and Gloria was played after every victory. The Blues continued winning and miracously climbed the standings with the bar and Gloria pulling for them all the way.
The Blues amazingly made the Playoffs, but were not expected to be a factor. Well needless to say this story got even better and could not been written any better by anybody in Hollywood. The Blues went on to win the Stanley Cup finals and win the franchises first championship in there Fifty Two Year existence. Right now in Saint Louis there singing,..
Sports is like life, it’s not fair, but if you try sometimes you get what you need.
Everybody sing, Gloria.
